Natureglo aka Gloria Brooks has been involved with teaching since she was in seventh grade when she began teaching sunday school in her teens. It was in seventh grade that Natureglo knew she wanted to be a teacher. in 1996, while in college, she became inspired to study natural history. In 2003, she embarked on a personal journey "to get back to nature", thus nicknaming herself Natureglo. This included nature immersion and learning skills such as birding and keeping a nature journal.
She has taught all grades and all subjects in K- 12 education. She holds a BA degree in K-12 education with a certificate from the Wilderness Awareness School. It was at Heathcote's 112 acres of wooded valley with gardens, pristine trails and gurgling stream, where Natureglo began her on site art and science center.
Natureglo is a passionate birder and looks for birds wherever she goes. She did a massive bird research project back in 2004 and 2005 assembling the best resources about birds and birding. This class is the result of her research and experiences with birds and birding. It is a part of her everyday life to notice what's going on in the bird community around her. She has taught about birds and led student experiences in birding and other wilderness and wildlife skills since 2003. She has spent many hours in the field with professional birders.
